SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the campus Academic Dean and working closely with Student Affairs, the Registrar’s office, and Faculty, the GE Specialist is responsible for delivering and maintaining a comprehensive persistence success and remediation system at the campus level, utilizing approved resources to ensure student persistence and success. Oversees all academic action plans provided to General Education (GE) students at the campus level. Follows-up on all letters of concern generated by faculty. Maintains relationships with students while enrolled in GE courses. Participates in: faculty meetings, Student Affairs persistence meetings, instructional seminars, in-service training sessions, GE curriculum committee, campus all-faculty meetings, student functions, open houses, and new student orientations.

Maintains a comprehensive tracking and reporting system for all GE students identified as at-risk.

Creates persistence and remediation reports for the campus Academic Dean and Director of Student Affairs and make recommendations for process improvement.

Facilitates meetings, according to an established scheduling system, with at risk GE students.

Works directly with students and faculty to develop a comprehensive academic action plan based on individual academic deficiencies

Provides student support to at risk, SAP warning students, students with more than one prior course fail, re-entry students, LOA return students, and students with other documented at-risk conditions as identified by Academic Dean and or Director of Student Affairs

Monitors and evaluates students’ progress toward completing the academic action plan, implementing a measurable strategy for students that do not complete the assigned plan.

Assists with ensuring that all remediation and tutoring services provided to GE students at the campus are used effectively.

Researches remediation and tutoring resources for implementation into a resource pool available university-wide.

Collects and analyzes evaluation feedback from students and faculty utilizing multiple strategies.

Meets regularly with GE Specialists at other campus to ensure university-wide consistency.

Assists Campus Academic Dean and University Chair of General Education with strategic planning for process improvements as needed.

Works in collaboration with Campus Student Affairs and the Campus Academic Dean to improve student persistence.

Participates in professional development and organizations in order to maintain an understanding of current ideas, research and practices, attends meetings, workshops and seminars to enrich personal growth, knowledge and skill in management development.

Maintains professional appearance for position and serves as a role model, leader and mentor to the campus community.

Adheres to Company policies and procedures and provides leadership to all staff through guidance and example.

Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.

Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings.

Maintains confidentiality of all, student, associate, and/or company information as required.

Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.

Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.

Performs other job duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, which includes course work in education or instructional design required.

Two-three years of experience relevant to the position.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

None applicable.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

Two-three years of experience relevant to the position.

Leadership knowledge in the higher education field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence.

Knowledge in technological support and delivery of program area and services.


Knowledge and evidence of strong supervisory and management skills as applicable to specialized program area. 

Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards

Experience with MS Office. 

Knowledge of applicable databases and computer application systems to supply the most accurate information, reports and projections.

Preferred:

  • Advising students effectively in an online and face to face environment.
  • Experience managing at-risk student population
  • Knowledge of project management skills, in depth understanding and knowledge of Excel databases, data analysis and computer application systems
  • Familiarity with reports and projections.
  • Experience with Campus Nexus reports and data.
  • Basic knowledge of SmartPrep, Zoom and Blackboard.

Ability to demonstrate a thorough, accurate and practical knowledge of their field or discipline.

Ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.

Ability to effectively operate related equipment and machines for instructional purposes.

Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and machines such as computer terminal, calculator and copier.

Ability to manage and work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community.


Ability to use effective communication skills, both oral and written, including presentations and effective listening skills.

Ability to speak before public groups, committees and meetings.


Ability to effectively use interpersonal skills, follow through with duties, provide attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to motivate others.

Ability to use creative facilitation and conflict resolution skills to resolve difficult and sensitive issues.

Ability to demonstrate excellent analytical and organizational skills.

Ability to self-direct, self-pace, multi-task and function well under pressure of deadlines and conflicting priorities.

Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Ability to exercise good judgment.

Ability to interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures and assure compliance.

Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Ability to travel/drive locally on a weekly, daily and/or on an as needed basis.

Ability to demonstrate bilingual skills is a plus but not mandatory.
