SUMMARY: The HR Consultant provides experienced professional support for a defined Human Resources assignment, initiative, or period of organizational need. Working with general direction, the role independently plans and executes moderately complex work, evaluates information, applies sound judgment, and recommends practical solutions aligned with organizational objectives, HR practices, and applicable requirements. Assignments may span one or more HR disciplines, including HR leadership support, benefits, talent acquisition, learning and development, HR operations, HR information systems, employee support, or other HR programs and projects.

The specific focus, priorities, and deliverables of the role may change as business needs evolve. Each engagement should be supported by a written assignment scope identifying the primary functional area, expected outcomes, key stakeholders, and anticipated duration. The role does not inherently include ongoing people-management responsibility.

  • Lead or independently execute assigned HR projects, programs, processes, or workstreams from planning through completion, including defining activities, coordinating resources, monitoring progress, and resolving routine obstacles.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and responsive support to HR leaders, business partners, managers, employees, vendors, or other stakeholders within the scope of the assignment.
  • Analyze information, business needs, process requirements, and available data; identify issues or opportunities; and develop well-reasoned recommendations or solutions.
  • Create, maintain, and improve HR materials, communications, reports, presentations, procedures, tools, system documentation, or other work products required by the assignment.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities and manage stakeholder follow-up to support timely, accurate, and effective delivery of assigned work.
  • Interpret and apply established policies, procedures, program requirements, and relevant laws or regulations; identify matters requiring escalation or specialized review.
  • Identify process gaps, risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities; recommend and help implement changes that strengthen service delivery, efficiency, accuracy, or the employee experience.
  • Handle sensitive employee and organizational information with discretion and maintain appropriate confidentiality, records, and documentation.
  • Adapt priorities and approach as the assignment and organizational needs change while maintaining accountability for agreed-upon outcomes.

Illustrative Assignment Areas
Depending on organizational need and the individual’s experience, assignments may include - but are not limited to - the following:

  • HR leadership support: coordinate priorities, prepare executive-level materials, support meetings and initiatives, manage follow-through, and provide project or operational support to HR leadership.
  • Benefits and Wellbeing: support open enrollment, vendor coordination, plan administration, associate communications, audits, issue resolution, or benefits-related projects.
  • Talent Acquisition: support recruiting initiatives, requisition and candidate workflows, sourcing or selection activities, hiring-manager consultation, and process improvement.
  • Learning and Development: coordinate or develop learning programs, content, communications, logistics, participation reporting, or program evaluation.
  • HRIS and Analytics: support system configuration or testing, data validation, reporting, documentation, user support, implementation activities, or process integration.
  • HR Operations or Generalist support: address employee or manager inquiries, coordinate employment processes, review transactions, support policy administration, and assist with cross-functional HR initiatives.

Perform other related duties and contribute to other HR priorities consistent with the professional level, qualifications, and general scope of the role.

EDUCATION:


Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources, business operations, executive or project support, or a discipline directly related to the assignment

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated experience independently coordinating projects, solving problems, and producing high-quality work for multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in the functional area of the assignment may be required. Relevant professional certification may be preferred for specialized assignments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills
  • Working knowledge of HR practices, employee lifecycle processes, and the principles relevant to the assigned functional area
  • Strong project coordination, organization, prioritization, and follow-through skills, with the ability to respond effectively to changing needs
  • Ability to analyze information, identify patterns or concerns, exercise sound judgment, and translate findings into practical recommendations
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor information for different audiences
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate across functions and levels
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and use HR systems, reporting tools, collaboration platforms, or other technology required by the assignment
  • High degree of discretion, professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook
