Responsibilities
Come care with us at West Coast University! As a Speech Language Pathology Faculty member for a certified Great Place to Work, you will guide healthcare students to do more than change their own lives you will help change the lives of every patient they treat throughout their careers in healthcare. The Clinical Educator Adjunct is instrumental in serving as a bridge between academic training and clinical practice. This role contributes four times a year during the 3-day onsite clinical immersive experiences in the MSLP program.
You will make an impact by:
- Interactive Workshops: Clinical Educators lead hands-on workshops where students practice new techniques and tools in speech-language pathology. This could include but is not limited to the use of simulation technology or role-playing scenarios.
- Discipline Experts: The Clinical Educators are experienced professionals and experts in the SLP field. They lead informative sessions planned in advance with MSLP faculty and leaders that provide students with insights into current trends and best practices.
- Technology Integration: Clinical Educators utilize the latest technology in their demonstrations and educational experiences at clinical immersives, such as telepractice platforms, speech analysis software, and augmented reality, to give students an innovative and modern perspective on the field.
- Case Studies and Problem-Based Learning: Clinical Educators present real-life case studies that conform to ethical requirements of patient confidentiality and engage students in clinical problem-solving activities during the immersive. This allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Clinical Educators speak to their experience and encourage collaboration with other healthcare disciplines, such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, and audiology in their presentations and discussions with students. Understanding a team-oriented approach ensures students learn a holistic approach to patients and how to be an integral part of a treatment team.
- Feedback and Reflection: Clinical Educators provide structured feedback sessions and engage in/encourage reflective practices to help students critically evaluate their performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Research and Evidence-Based Practice: Clinical Educators incorporate real-life use of discipline research in evidence-based practice.
Your Experience Includes:
- Minimum two years of clinical supervision of speech-language pathology students at a clinical site or in higher education.
- Minimum of two years in the field of speech-language pathology, including documented clinical practice.
- Possesses clinical skills to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence.
- Knowledge in technological support and delivery of specialty area clinical skills.
- Knowledge of discipline accreditation standards and laws/rules of the state within which the individual is licensed.
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and other relevant software
Education: Education and experience must align with state regulations and comply with the rules and regulations of state authorization agencies.
- Graduate degree with an emphasis in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Sciences & Disorders is required
- PhD/Ed.D./SLPD in Speech Language Pathology, Communication Sciences & Disorders or graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology with Board Certification Specialty preferred.
- Degrees must be awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body
