Principal Data Engineer
Richardson, Texas Job ID: 2024-3069 Salary Range: $134,203.85 - $194,569.06The Predictive Analytics Team develops predictive and prescriptive data solutions which require a single source of the truth. Reporting to the Predictive Analytics Team Director of Data Integration and Data Quality, the Principal Data Engineer will:
- Contribute advanced expertise to the team in the areas of data integration, data quality, data operations, data platform architecture, and data governance.
- This role will contribute to the development and operation of a modern analytical data store which supports the entire student journey while focusing on marketing, retention, placement, tuition, scholarships, graduation rates, student learning, student engagement, and other relevant academic success factors to be used for decision making related to enhancing student outcomes and academic excellence.
- The analytical data store contains both granular structured/unstructured data as well as aggregated data elements to ensure optimal flexibility to support a variety of analytical use cases.
Responsibilities:
- Contributes advanced data integration, data quality, data operations, data platform architecture, and data governance expertise to the Analytical Data Store.
- Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.
- Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the University's Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.
- Maintains confidentiality of all students, associates, and/or university information as required.
- Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
- Maintains order, cleanliness, and safety at work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience & Skills
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by advanced understanding and applications of data integration data warehousing, cloud computing, and data engineering is required; Graduate study in computer science, information systems, economics, mathematics, statistics, or engineering is highly desired.
- Minimum of 5 years of working experience in data integration data warehousing, cloud computing, and data engineering, or a combination thereof, and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in data-related requirements, design, development, and deployment efforts required.
- Expert working knowledge in Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Integration Services.
- Expert working knowledge in SQL/Transact-SQL.
- Expert working knowledge in data warehouse design and data lake concepts.
- Expert working knowledge of extract, transform, and load processes.
- Experience with the following technologies is preferred:
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure Data Lake Storage
- Azure Databricks
- Azure Event Hubs
- Delta Lake
- Microsoft Power BI
- Python
- SAS
- Loves working with data, including data integration, data quality, databases, and data analytics.
- Mastered the art of meeting deadlines while working at a fast pace under stress and pressure.
- Enormously cautious about protecting the privacy and security of data.
- Driven to automate as many repetitive and tedious tasks as possible.
- Strong in working well with others and minimizing conflicts when differences of opinion do exist.
- Obsessed with quality, details, and achieving error-free results as often as possible.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to travel occasionally, when needed.
- This is a hybrid position where you will work at our Richardson, TX campus 3 days/week and from your home office 2 days/week.
Compensation - Texas:
- $117,865.99 - $170,910.99
